Things You See at Gas Stations
Topic Started 10/02/02

I'm filling up my car at one of the local gas stations today when I notice the guy beside me. He is filling up his van while he carrying on a conversation on his cell phone! And to make matters worse, he's hunched down with his phone and face inches from his open gas tank! And we're not talking about a quick 1-minute conversation. He was talking when I arrived, and he was still talking after I filled up my car, paid and left.

Can I blame it on illiteracy? No, that can't be it as the signs have a cigarette and cell phone with a big red circle and line through it.

So the only thing I can think of is a complete lack of respect for those around him. Apparently he is above the laws of chemistry and science. Somehow his cell phone couldn't possible generate a spark that could ignite the gas fumes that are pouring out inches from his face (and only a few feet from me!).

All I can say is, I made a note of the sign on his van (a local carpentry company) and would never recommend them to do a job at my home or office. I'd hate to think of the other senseless things they could do!

The Annual Watering Ban
Topic Started 9/22/02

With the now annual watering ban coming near its end, we thought it would be appropriate to post this hot topic.

As Newmarket continues to expand, developers keep putting up new homes and businesses at an incredible rate, the demand for water is sure to increase. Developers are also permitted to water any new sod they have layed whether the homes are occupied or not, while other residents who may have spent years tending to their lawns are left to watch their grass turn brown.

Should the Town of Newmarket be spending more time and money on ensuring a steady supply of water? Should developers be forced to bring in their own supply of water?

Shopping Cart Rage
Topic Started 9/10/02

Recently I was sitting in a car, in the parking lot of a local grocery store. While sitting there I witnessed a shopper acting in an incredibly obnoxious way.
The shopper, who was parked in front and to the left of the car I was in returned from the store to find a cart abandoned by another shopper sitting alongside her car.
On seeing the cart, she grabbed it and swung it with full force against the curb. It rebounded and headed with great speed towards the car I was in. She managed to grab it when it was about a foot away from me. Instead of thinking about the stupidity of her action (and the potential consequenses), she instead decided to fling it again. This time it didn't rebound as far, but was left in the middle of a parking space ready for someone to crash into. She then proceded to unload her own cart, returned it to the cart area and drove off.
Have you witnessed any shopping cart rage? Do you leave your cart in the middle of a parking space? What would you do if this had happened to you?
